Armco has arranged their next Asbestos Awareness and Works with Non-Licensed Asbestos Containing Materials training session to be held on Monday, 12th November 2012 at 9.00 a.m. at Business Centre,Kay Street,Bury, BL9 6BU.
Did you know that of the approximate 4000 asbestos related deaths per year, 40 tradesman every week die from asbestos related diseases. Due to the fact that the fibres which cause the diseases are hard to detect asbestos has been labelled ‘The Hidden Killer’ by various HSE campaigns.
In response to this danger, The Control of Asbestos Regulations (2012) legally binds employers to comply with regulation 10 which states ‘every employer shall ensure that adequate information, instruction and training is given to those of his employees who are liable to be exposed to asbestos or who supervise such employees’. If you work in any of the following occupations, and are working on a building built or refurbished before 2000, you may come in to contact with asbestos.
The following professions, amongst others, are at risk from asbestos fibre exposure: all Demolition workers; Carpenters and Joiners; Plumbers; Roofing contractors; Painters and decorators; Plasterers; Construction workers; Fire and burglar alarm installers; Shop fitters; Gas fitters; Computer installers; General maintenance staff e.g. caretakers; Telecommunications engineers; Building surveyors; Cable layers; Electricians; and Heating and Ventilation Engineers.
The ½ day Asbestos Awareness Training covers: the history of asbestos; the properties of asbestos and its effects on health; the types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos in buildings and plant; and the general procedures to be followed to deal with an emergency. Armco’s training sessions are held by fully qualified and time-served surveyors whom deliver the class as an oral presentation with power point slides and written material. The candidates are presented with a certificate and Armco also provides the necessary yearly refresher training session. The cost of this session is £55 per person.
The Works With Non-Licensed ACM’s training is made up of the ½ day Asbestos Awareness and is then followed by a half days session covering non-licensed ACM’s. Various asbestos products are considered low risk and therefore non-licensed, such as asbestos cement, floor tiles and texture coating. Such materials have been deemed low risk by the HSE and therefore any remedial works do not require a license. The materials still harbour some risk and therefore those undertaking such remedial works must be trained in working with such ACM’s.
Once the one day course has been completed, the member of staff can then be utilised to undertake remedial works with non-licensed ACM’s as a competent contractor and therefore the use of costly sub-contractors can be avoided. In addition, you can then become a sub-contractor for other companies requiring such asbestos non-licensed remedial works. The cost of the course is a competitive £165 per person plus VAT and is minimal compared to the money save from avoiding costly sub-contractors and the increased revenue should you begin providing such services.
Armco’s training sessions are held by fully qualified and time-served surveyors/removers whom deliver the session as an oral presentation with power point slides and written material. The candidates are presented with a certificate and we also provide the necessary refresher training sessions. We also offer a discounted respiratory mask face fitting service when booked in conjunction with one of the courses described above.
