Novembers’ Asbestos Awareness training session held in Bury recently was again a great success and I spent a few moments with the Manager of Red Rose Preservations Ltd whom had booked his workers on this mandatory course.

Red Rose Preservations Ltd are a Rochdale based structural repair and building preservation specialists whose services include cellar conversions, damproofing, structural water proofing, associated re-plastering, wall tie installation and timber treatment. Please see their website for further information: https://www.redrosepreservations.co.uk

The Manager, John Crossley, stated that the delegates had agreed that they had found the course very relevant and informative and, they thought that the trainer was very personable and presented the information in a clear and concise fashion. They all felt like their knowledge of asbestos and their awareness towards it had been greatly increased and that they felt confident that they would be able to identify asbestos containing materials and engage the correct procedures to ensure working conditions remained safe.

Mr. Crossley then advised us of the CITB – Construction Skills Scheme which is the Sector Skills Council and Industry Training Board for the construction industry, working with industry, for industry to deliver a safe, professional and fully qualified UK construction workforce. They work with construction companies to help them improve skills, increase their competitive edge and respond to the many challenges employers face – from the low carbon agenda, through to reducing costs on-site and recruiting the best and brightest talent for their sector.   They believe that developing the skills of workers in the construction industry is crucial to the health of the UK economy – that’s why we are working with employers to make sure our industry has the right skills in the right place, at the right time.

We were informed that for a monthly fee, companies can register with the Scheme and not only tap into the large database of Health and Safety information and advice but apply for training related grants. Red Rose Preservations, through this scheme, had received £25 per delegate for the Asbestos Awareness training towards the £55 per person plus VAT that we charge.
