Armco held two Asbestos Awareness training sessions in October 2012 and we were very pleased with the comments made by the delegates. I have chosen the following feedback to illustrate the general thoughts of persons whom attend our Asbestos Awareness training sessions:

“I wasn’t really looking forward to the course as I get bored easily and felt like I know all there is to knew about asbestos. I was wrong! I found the information presented in the sessions extremely informative. The explanation of what asbestos is and it’s history was very interesting and the training on what asbestos is used for, and where it can be found is very detailed and invaluable. The trainer is most personable and I was fully attentive throughout due to his friendly yet professional manner.” Darren Brewer, Contracts Technical Sales Manager – CFES Ltd, Saddleworth

Research shows that approximate 4000 asbestos related deaths per year, 40 tradesman every week die from asbestos related diseases. Due to the fact that the fibers which cause the diseases are hard to detect asbestos has been labelled ‘The Hidden Killer’ by various HSE campaigns. In response to this danger, The Control of Asbestos Regulations (2012) legally binds employers to comply with regulation 10 that states ‘every employer shall ensure that adequate information, instruction and training is given to those of his employees who are liable to be exposed to asbestos or who supervise such employees’.

If you work in any of the following occupations, and are working on a building built or refurbished before the year 2000, it is likely that you may come in to contact with asbestos:
